David Poisson joined State Capital Group as CEO on May 1, 2011. Over the past three decades, Poisson worked with some of the nation’s largest and most influential trade groups, including the National Education Association and the Electronic Industries Association. He has been chief executive officer of three major international trade associations in the automotive and electronics industries. Immediately before joining the Group, Poisson was President of Jenkins Hill Partners, a boutique consulting practice providing lobbying services for business, government and nonprofit organizations, and Of Counsel to the law firm of Howe, Anderson & Steyer, whose clients include over 75 trade associations in industries as diverse as construction, mining, insurance, manufacturing and printing.
Between 2006 and 2010, Poisson served two terms in the Virginia General Assembly, during which time he became Deputy House Minority Whip. He was also Legislative Director and Chief Counsel to the late U.S. Senator Terry Sanford of North Carolina and later served as Chief of Staff and Counsel to then-U.S. Representative, now Assistant Senate Majority Leader, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois.
Poisson received his law degree and Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since 1995, he has held the Certified Association Executive designation of the American Society of Association Executives. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Virginia and is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Society of Association Executives, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces Bar, the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Virginia Society of Association Executives.
